Setting Out Engineer – Darlington & Gateshead

Location: Darlington and Gateshead, North East England

Salary: £40,000 + package 

Role Description

The Resolute Group are supporting a National contractor who are looking to grow their team in the North East with additional Setting Out Engineering support.

The role will focus on setting out across civil engineering projects, ensuring works are completed in accordance with technical drawings and project specifications. You will be working closely with the site team, supporting construction activities and ensuring accurate setting out throughout the project.

Typical day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Setting Out and Surveying: Using equipment such as Total Stations and GPS to mark out precise locations, levels and alignments in accordance with design drawings.
• Interpreting Technical Drawings: Reviewing engineering drawings and specifications to ensure works are set out correctly and identifying any discrepancies before construction begins.
• Quality Control: Carrying out checks and surveys to ensure completed works meet the required specifications and tolerances.
• Site Coordination: Liaising with Site Managers, subcontractors and the wider engineering team to coordinate setting-out requirements and support the programme of works.
• As-Built Surveys: Recording completed works and maintaining accurate survey information for quality assurance and project records.
• Technical Problem-Solving: Identifying and reporting discrepancies between drawings and site conditions, assisting with resolving technical issues as they arise.
• Health and Safety: Following site-specific Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) and ensuring all setting-out activities are carried out safely.
• Daily Reporting and Documentation: Maintaining accurate survey records, site notes and relevant engineering documentation.

Required Experience

• Civil Engineering qualification, be it HNC, HND or Degree.
• Previous experience working as a Setting Out Engineer within civil engineering or construction.
• Experience using surveying equipment, including Total Stations and GPS.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and engineering specifications.
• A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites in and around Darlington and Gateshead.
